Lemartes, Guardian of the Lost

Lemartes, Guardian of the Lost paint

Warhammer pics! I have been wanting to take some pictures of my latest miniatures for a long while, but never got around to it. Lemartes, Guardian of the Lost, is the guy that will be escorting my Death Company. I always liked this miniature, and was very intimidated about painting him, because it meant a lot to me that he came out looking good. More pictures if you...

When I was finished with my Death Company, I jumped right into painting Lemartes. I had gotten a technique for painting the black armor down, and figured it was as good a time as any to start him. He didnt take all that long to paint, and i'm fairly happy with the results; Black is such an easy color to make look nice.  There are a couple things that I noticed when I took these pictures that i didn't like, but I cant be too hard on myself. These pictures do blow the miniatures up to about 10x the size on screen.

White balance, I think I used 4000k (Tungsten)

Something you will notice, is that I took this opportunity to learn a little about my camera. The pictures I took of my first figures had a yellowish background, because of the bulbs I was using as light. So, instead of buying new bulbs, I experimented with the white balance settings on the camera. I have to say, i'm really happy with the results. I never really thought about it before, but how you take the pictures seems to matter almost as much as how you paint these minis. I cant figure out why some still look different, even with the same white balance setting, but i'll get it eventually.

Lemartes is my only pewter figure so far, it could be just me, but I liked painting pewter more than plastic for some reason. I'm happy with how the shoulders came out for the most part. One of the big things im questioning is if I should put some color in his eyes, I could go with the blue like they do in the book, but i'm still on the fence. Something about the hallow look the black eyes give him feels right to me. Lemmy is ready to smash face with the death company, after reading the rules, I cant wait to see what he can do in combat.

I feel like my paintings improving, and that's what I aim for! I get really frustrated if one of the mini's I paint looks worse than one I painted before. As long as I keep improving with each paint job, i'm happy. Next up will be some Blood Angels Assault Marines.
